Alex holds a PhD in Political Science from York University and is Associate Professor of Global Studies at Wilfrid Laurier University. He is of English and Scottish settler heritage but has his roots in Coast Salish territory on the West Coast of Turtle Island. Alex brings an interdisciplinary approach to questions of environment and natural resources, with a focus on the way that cultural identity, political institutions and economic influence shape possibilities for inclusive governance, social justice and ecological sustainability. After a decade of research in Latin America, his current work with Indigenous communities in the Northwest Territories seeks the co-generation of knowledge to support Indigenous-led environmental stewardship, climate change adaptation and food sovereignty.
